Board of Directors

    The following individuals have graciously volunteered their time and talents to serve on our Board of Directors for 2018.


    Brenda Robbins - President

    Brenda is the Manager of Human Resources at Union Power Cooperative and has 30 years of experience in the field of Human Resources.  Organizations that Brenda has worked for in the past include Anheuser-Busch, Inc. (Ft. Collins, CO), Cabela's (Sidney, NE) and High West Energy (Pine Bluffs, WY).  Brenda's expertise includes Employee Relations, Staff Management, Compliance, Workers' Compensation, FMLA, Organizational & Employee Development, Labor Relations, Benefits, Compensation and Business Leadership & Strategy.

    Brenda currently holds her SHRM-SCP (Society of Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional) and SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources)  certifications.  Brenda obtained her Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University and her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Denver.

    Brenda was a member of the 2016 Class of Leadership Union, is a member of the Job Ready Committee for Union County and enjoys educating the youth of Union County.  Brenda's spare time is spent enjoying time with friends, golfing, working in her yard, walking, making pottery in Waxhaw, cross stitching and being with family (when she can get back to Colorado).


    Susan Laukat - President Elect

    Susan Laukat is the Human Resources Generalist at Cyril Bath Company. 

    Susan provides leadership and expertise for the full scope of human resources functions including benefits, compensation, policy design and implementation and organizational change and development.   She is PHR and SHRM-CP certified with over 15 years in the field of Human Resources in the manufacturing and construction industries.   In addition to the Union County Human Resources Association, she is a member of the 2017 Class of Leadership Union, Manufacturer’s HR Roundtable, and Job Ready Committee for Union County.  

    Susan received her BA in Criminal Justice from UNC-Wilmington and her Human Resources Generalist certification from Central Piedmont Community College.   Susan is the spouse of a North Carolina National Guardsman and has spent the greater part of the past 15 years as an advocate and resource supporting service members and their families.


    Keith Guercio - Co-Secretary

    As manager of business development for Carolina Cooperative Federal Credit Union, Keith strives to connect companies and their employees to the CCFCU.  This relationship provides tremendous value to member companies' benefit packages which sets them apart when attracting high quality applicants for employment.  Keith enjoys assisting all strata of employees with their financial health and planning.

    In addition, Keith has managed his sales territory for Herff Jones for thirty years specializing in providing scholastic products and services to our area high schools.  Keith has been recognized for customer service excellence throughout his career and has received the company’s highest honor, the Hall of Fame Award.

    Christian Mission and Family are his highest priorities.  Keith has been ordained as an elder, served as a deacon and counselor.  He has served in Peru for over 12 years building many homes and relationships, and, has learned a little Spanglish along the way.


     Christina Snethen - Co-Secretary

    Christina Snethen is the Human Resources/Payroll Administrator at Barefoot and Company, Inc. Christina obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus in Finance from Coastal Carolina University. While Christina’s education has been primarily in Finance, she has taken on the challenging responsibilities of Human Resources in her position at Barefoot and Company, Inc. She has recently completed the Corporate and Continuing Education Human Resources Certificate Program at CPCC, and plans to sit for the SHRM-CP exam this winter.

    Christina has held positions at the following organizations: Conway National Bank in Conway, SC, Acadia Northstar, LLC in Rutherfordton, NC, The NC Public Charter School Association in Charlotte, NC, and now Barefoot and Company Inc. in Indian Trial, NC.

    Christina grew up in Myrtle Beach, SC and is a beach girl at heart. She enjoys doing anything and everything outdoors. She is a  social butterfly and enjoys spending all of her spare time with her family, friends, and most importantly her dog “child” Hampton.


    Nancy Rutherford – Treasurer, Foundation Chair

    Nancy Rutherford is a human resource generalist with Eminess Technologies, Inc.  She participates in all aspects of human resource management including benefits administration for their Monroe, NC manufacturing facility.

    Nancy is PHR certified and has actively served on the board of Union County Human Resource Association for two terms.  In addition, she is a Centralina Workforce Development board member.  Nancy believes that active networking and continuing professional development is a key to success for human resource professionals and that membership in UCHRA offers those opportunities.  

    Nancy and her husband live in Union County, enjoying a rural lifestyle that includes their horses.


    Terri Bowden, MS, MBA - Co-Vice President of Membership

    Terri Bowden is a business development manager with Carolinas HealthCare System HEALTHWORKS. She works with business leaders and HR professionals to encourage healthy, productive employees and deploy strategies for lowering the employer’s overall healthcare spend.

    With more than 20 years of experience in the business community and working in government for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Terri has been focused on population health management.  Her diverse background brings credible professional experience and creative ideas to the membership committee role.

    Terri holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She also has a MS in Molecular Biology from Georgia State University and a MBA from Pfeiffer University, where she is currently completing her MHA (Master of Health Administration).


    Carol Cadena - Co-Vice President of Membership

    Carol is the Benefits Manager at 3D Systems in Rock Hill, SC and has 23 years of experience in the field of Benefits/Human Resources and 7 years of experience in the Accounting/Auditing field. Organizations that Carol has worked for in the past include Johnson & Johnson (New Brunswick, NJ), Sony Electronics, Inc (Park Ridge, NJ), Pfizer/Warner-Lambert Company (Peapack, NJ), Belk, Inc. (Charlotte, NC), and General Electric Plastics/SABIC Innovative Plastics (Pittsfield, MA & Huntersville, NC).  Carol’s HR/Benefits expertise specializes in both Health & Welfare Benefits Administration (in-house & outsourced) and Plan Design, as well as, Retirement (Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, and Executive Benefits) Plan Design and Administration.

    Carol currently holds her SHRM-SCP (Society of Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional) and her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.  Carol obtained her Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Newark.

    Carol’s spare time is spent ballroom dancing every night with her boyfriend and ballroom dance friends, cooking, traveling, going to the theatre (movies and plays), concerts, and spending time with family and friends (when she can get back to Florida, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico).


    Jen Henry- Vice President of Programs & Certification

    Jen Henry is the 2018 co-VP of Programs and Certification Chair of UCHRA.  She is also the Human Resources Project Manager at The Employers Association. 

    Jen is primarily responsible for administering, managing and conducting Employee Satisfaction and Engagement Surveys for organizations. She also provides follow up consultative services focused on increasing engagement and morale in the workplace.  Other projects she manages include Exit interviews/surveys, Focus Group facilitation and the Contract HR Management services program providing HR talent for organization on a temporary or long-term project basis.   

    She is PHR certified and has over 15 years of experience in human resources including roles in Recruiting, Payroll and HR project management. Her expertise is in attracting and retaining top talent within the organization.  Jen was born in Virginia, but considers herself as a North Carolina native and has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Appalachian State University.


    Jeanne Pritt - Co-Vice President of Programs & Certification

    Jeanne Pritt, MSOD, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CQA is CEO of People Outcomes, LLC, an organization development consulting firm focused on leveraging organization strengths through talent, strategy and culture. She brings decades of senior leadership experience in the human services, healthcare and government industries. Pritt received her Masters of Science in Organization Development and Coaching Certification from McColl School of Business, Queens University of Charlotte and her Bachelors in Psychology from Penn State University. Her community involvement includes leadership roles with Waxhaw-Weddington Rotary, Waxhaw Entrepreneurs and Women Executives, Charlotte.

    While born in Pennsylvania, Jeanne considers herself thoroughly ‘southernized’ and calls Waxhaw her home. In her free-time she reads, spends time with her daughter and friends, travels and enjoys many active hobbies, such as hiking with her dog, Lilly.

    Cheryl Brakefield - College Relations Chair

    Cheryl is the Director of Employee Development at South Piedmont Community College.  In this role Cheryl is responsible for Employee Relations, Onboarding, Employee and Professional Development, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Worker’s Compensation, and Performance Management.   

    With over 18 years in the field of Human Resources/Training and Development, Cheryl has worked in the private, non-profit, and higher education sectors.  Cheryl holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from State University of New York at Albany and a Training and HRD Certification from Florida International University.

    Cheryl loves the outdoors, fitness, reading, volunteering, and good food.  The thing Cheryl enjoys most is spending time with her husband, daughter, and golden retriever! 


    Sally Duncan - Workforce Readiness Chair

    Sally is the Human Resources Coordinator at Goulston Technologies, Inc. Gouston is a chemical manufacturing company in Monroe, NC, specializing in surface modification technologies.  Sally has been with Goulston for over 20 years, and has been in her current role as HR Coordinator for over 10 years.  Sally obtained her SHRM-CP (Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional) in 2017.

    Sally performs a variety of administrative and coordination activities, including assisting with benefits enrollment, employee recruitment and compliance related efforts, as well as Health, Safety & Environmental initiatives. 

    Sally enjoys an active life with family, friends, church and new adventures.

    Lynn Kroeger - Diversity Chair

    Lynn Kroeger serves dual roles as human resources director and chief financial officer at Union Academy Charter School, located in Monroe, NC. She is responsible for creating processes and benefits to attract and retain employees, as well as managing the school’s $14 million annual operating budget.

    Kroeger holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She also has her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certifications.

    She is currently serving on the Carolina Health Care Advisory Board - Union and the Advisory Board of United Way of Central Carolina - Union.  Lynn is an active appointed member of the North Carolina Charter School Advisory Board.

    In her HR role, Kroeger recently received the Presidential Babcock Award for excellence in the field of human resources. The award is the highest honor The Employers Association bestows on human resources professionals in the Charlotte region; it is designed to recognize an individual who has achieved excellence in the field of human resources while contributing to the community.

    She was also named a finalist for The Employers Association’s Strategic HR Leadership Award, which recognizes a seasoned HR professional who has had a significant impact on both their HR department and their organization as a whole.
     


    Cheryl Neely - Past President

    Cheryl is CEO/Founder of The Kinship Group, which she launched in "2017".  The Kinship Group is a HR Consulting, Executive Search and Staffing organization. She works with customers across the market in finding top talent and helping them empower & improve their HR teams. In "2016", Cheryl sold her successful staffing firm, Carolina Staffing Resources to Boardwalk Staffing. Carolina Staffing Resources was founded in "2009"by Cheryl and grew to a 4 million dollar firm.

    Cheryl started in the Human Resource & Staffing Market with the Olsten Corporation in the Florida market and in the past 32 years has worked in key roles for national, regional and local Executive & Recruiting firms. In 1995 she became a Nationally Certified Temporary Staffing Specialist (CTS) from The National Association of Personnel (NAPS). Besides building her business she is a “Paul Harris Fellow” with Rotary of Monroe, Serves on the board of ARC of Union/Cabarrus Counties & just completed serving as board chair the past two years for the ARC. She also serves on the Monroe Rotary Board, American Red Cross, Union County Chamber Executive Board, United Way of Central Carolina Board, UCHRA Board and The North Carolina Association of Staffing Professionals (NCASP) Board for the past nine years. In 2014 she was a graduate  of “Leadership Union” for the Union County Chamber of Commerce. She belongs to the Women in Business (WIB) Group in Union County as well as volunteering with multiple non-profits.In "2014" she became part of Women's Leadership Coalition who mentor & assist in motivational events for women in Union County. In "2017" she became the "Regional Volunteer Human Resource Leader for the Western Region of the NC American Red Cross. She also stays busy with memberships to Union County Chamber, Matthews Chamber, and Charlotte Chamber & Arrowood Association. She has served on the Board of Directors for UCHRA as VP Co-Chair of Membership for the last three years and has chaired UCHRA SHRM Night out for the past three years. In "2019" Cheryl will lead The Monroe Rotary Club as President, and  in the year "2020" she will be the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Union County Chamber.


    Robert Guy, SPHR, SHRM-SCP – Board Advisor 

    Robert is the Human Resource Manager for Darnel, Inc. a foam food packaging plant with locations in Monroe, NC and Miami, FL. With the US corporate headquarters located in Monroe, Darnel, Inc. is part of a larger world-wide organization, Ajover, S.A., specializing in a variety of plastics manufacturing.

    Prior to joining Darnel in December 2006 and Robert served as the Corporate Human Resources Manager for an audio/video manufacturer and distributor in Fort Mill, SC where he served over 17 years.

    Robert received his Master in Business Administration, in 2001, from the McColl School of Business in Charlotte, NC and received his SPHR certification in January 2006.  Robert has served in a variety of roles on the UCHRA board as well as UCHRA President in 2012.


    Sharon L. Robinson, MBA - Webmaster & Volunteer Coordinator

    Sharon Robinson received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  She subsequently worked in several roles in a variety of organizations.  After several years of work experience, she returned to UNC Charlotte to pursue a Master of Business Administration.

    After graduating, she accepted a position in Human Resources in the private sector.  In this role, she worked in Employee Retention and then in a role within Compensation and Benefits.  She joined Wingate University in September 2008.  She currently serves as the Director of Internships and Career Services.  In addition, she has taught a course which covers resume and cover letter preparation, interviewing techniques, and job search strategies.  In previous years, she served on the UCHRA Board as the Workforce Readiness Chair, the President-Elect, President, Past President, and Webmaster.  In addition, she has served on the North Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers Conference Committee and is the Treasurer of the NC Career Consortium of Metrolina Colleges.
